Anticipation
No one likes to wait. Least of all, kids on Christmas morning. Then there is the 16-year-old waiting to see if he/she passed the driving test. What about waiting for the doorbell to ring when it’s your first date. Or, waiting for the door to be opened when you are picking up your first date. Then there’s the waiting in line to use the bathroom after you’ve held it all the way through the movie. Waiting. No one likes it but everyone has to wait at some point in life.
And then, what do you do while waiting? Some people tap their fingers, pens, or glasses. Some people start humming or singing. That drives me crazy. Now for the rest of the day I have their song stuck in my head. I want to tell them to just shut up until some other guy waiting in line starts to talk to everyone. Now he thinks we are all his best friends and he is telling us everything.
But the hardest wait I have found is the wait a parent has to go through to see what their children will become. We watch for years and make guesses along the way. We try to help and it doesn’t always go well. We back off a bit, but then we go too far. Balance! It’s near impossible. Waiting for a child to become what they were created to become. It’s not easy, but it’s worth the wait.
Along the way, if we look close enough, we will see doors of opportunity for our children. A first, we help them to recognize these doors. Then we help them to open the doors. Before long, they will know which door they want to go through. Waiting.
Making the Main has grown out of a love for motorcycles that I share with my daughter. I have never seen anything excite her like bikes. She is a relentless rider. She is a student of the sport of Motocross/Supercross. She has become friends with countless professional riders, their mechanics, and support staff. Her room looks more like a boy’s room, clad in wall to wall posters. She has even been in Motocross Action Magazine, twice!
So, we embark on this journey together, attempting to bring a fresh new perspective to the race world. We will cover the races, for sure. But we will also focus on the behind the scenes people, the privateer, and the families that make up the motorcycle industry.
Making the Main – The wait is over. We’re here!
